In its basic sense, testing can be defined as the process of inspection of a product before it is launched in the market. The testing process is carried out in every industry, whether manufacturing or software. Here we will discuss some of the most important types of testing process in the software field.
Performance testing
Once the software product functionality is checked thoroughly, the performance testing is done as the final stages of testing. A software transforms into a product once it is released in the market. Before releasing a product for the users, performance testing is performed on the software to inspect various areas such as scalability, reliability, the number of concurrent users the software can handle and the effect on the software if the load goes beyond maximum.
The main types of performance testing are -
- Load Testing
- Stress Testing
- Soak Testing
- Spike Testing
Load Testing
Load testing is a part of performance testing where the software is tested with an expected load of concurrent users that may be incident on the software. When a software is being built, its functionality and the purpose is discussed beforehand. In accordance with it, the expected number of users that may use the software are estimated and the software is tested with that load. This testing process checks the reliability and response time of the software.
Stress Testing
This type of performance testing is done to check the robustness of the software. Once the maximum load that the software can handle is estimated, the load is increased beyond it to observe the performance of the software beyond the maximum load. Even if the system crosses the maximum number of concurrent users, it should keep performing and should not crash under any circumstances.
