The most fundamental difference between web hosting and dedicated server hosting is that one is the subset of another. What it means is that when a dedicated server hosts a website it is a called web hosting. However, websites may not necessarily be hosted on dedicated servers. They can be hosted on a virtual private server(vps), a shared server or a cloud server among others. Similarly, a dedicated server may not be necessarily used to host a website. In this analogy, the piece of land is the dedicated server and the house is the website. Any program that hosts its services on a dedicated server may be referred to as dedicated server hosting. Similarly, a website that is hosted on any platform, whether dedicated, Vps or cloud will be referred to as web hosting.
