There are many advantages to hosting control panels: they’re not difficult for users to learn and master, they can control all key functions like domain and email management, FTP and SSH access, database management and logfile access, and do it all from an online interface.
This battle is one many have discussed and while cPanel or DirectAdmin or Plesk are great choices, cPanel is better for beginners and provides more customization for advanced users. However, all depends on your requirement (usage/budget) and server setup (Windows/ Linux) before you choose which Panel to use and why. Following is some comparison for you to understand between the given panels and make a choice.
cPanel
Platform: Linux
cPanel is a hosting control panel based on Unix. The word “cPanel” is so widely used that it has become the universal way that people refer to a control panel, even though cPanel actually is a product and not a generic name.
cPanel provides complete management of websites and administration through a web browser. It is full-featured and easy to use, which is why it’s the most popular control panel for Linux servers. Taking charge of domains, databases, files, security and email is a piece of cake for users, and the host can easily add apps which allow an enormous range of third-party software to be installed with one touch. cPanel’s WHM (Web Host Manager) is included but runs separately; it provides full back end administrative access with server configuration and monitoring, backups, transfers and networking all easily managed. cPanel is only supported on operating systems such as RedHat, CloudLinux and CentOS.
Plesk
Platform: Windows/Linux
A good alternative to cPanel is Plesk, which is quite similar but has a look that’s a bit more elegant. It’s a little cheaper than cPanel, but it's bigger advantage is that it will run on many Linux distributions while cPanel is only intended for use on RedHat, CloudLinux and CentOS.
You can use Plesk on VPS, shared as well as dedicated server. An important feature in Plesk is that many tasks can be automated which reduces the cost and resources considerably.
DirectAdmin
Platform: Linux
This less-expensive option has all of the basics and is more lightweight than either cPanel or Plesk, lessening server load. There are some advanced security and troubleshooting functions in the other choice we’ve mentioned that aren’t available in DirectAdmin, but they won’t be noticed by most who are running their own servers or hosting for clients. DirectAdmin is supported for FreeBSD, RedHat, CentOS and Debian.
